'Chinglish' lands at Longacre
David Henry Hwangs Chinglish came good reviews in Chi.Incoming Broadway play "Ching-lish" has reserved the Longacre Theater because of its fall run. New work by David Henry Hwang ("Yellow Face," "M. Butterfly") lately wrapped its world premiere run at Chicago's Goodman Theater. Commercial producers introduced a Primary Stem transfer for that show recently, just like favorable local reviews started moving in. Strong box office motivated extra time that ended Sunday. Leigh Silverman ("Well") returns to helm the show, casting that has not been set. Chi staging starred James Waterston, Jennifer Lim, Ray Zhang and Stephen Pucci, amongst others, within the story of the American's efforts to grow his family's business into China. Jeffrey Richards, Jerry Frankel, Roy Gottlieb, Craig and Carole Kaye and David Stoller produce the commercial transfer in colaboration with the Goodman. Show is just one of three about the slate from duo Richards and Frankel, also behind tuners "Porgy and Bess" and "Bonnie and Clyde." Newest tenant in the Longacre, "La Cage aux Folles," shuttered in May. "Chinglish" starts previews there March. 11, by having an exact opening date to become determined.
